1.  What should I wear?

Good question and long answer! Here we go! Coordinate your family’s outfits by finding a common color and weaving it through your family's outfits.  Avoid wearing all matching outfits. Jeans look great in outdoor photos and go with pretty much any color. Recommended colors include gray, ivory, and earth tones (orange, red, purple). White is too bright and tends to get washed out. Wear colors that coordinate with your hair color and skin tone. Avoid too many competing large prints (i.e. polka dots and bold stripes) and don’t wear tennis shoes with white socks, especially with dark pants. Don't wear hats or sunglasses. Baseball caps are the only exception, and even then, it should tie into the look. Moms and girls: watch out for those hair rubber bands wrapped around your wrists. Do wear what look you’re going for whether it's bright, subtle, sophisticated, hipster, or formal. Do wear accessories or consider a few props (scarves, boots) if you’re going for more subtle, softer colors. Do wear clothes that you’re comfortable in. If you’re not comfortable, it will show in the images. Pick clothing that accentuate your best feature or make you feel good. Check Pinterest for some ideas!

2.  What if I can't make it to my session as scheduled?

Contact me as soon as possible so that I can rearrange my schedule for that day. It is best to reach me by text (510) 304-2641 or email chelseabulik@gmail.com. Please note that deposits are non-refundable and only apply to the date scheduled.

3.  What if I'm running late?

It is very important to arrive to your session on time because the session will still end at the scheduled time. It is recommended that you arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled time. If you are late for any reason, please contact me and we will do our best to get in as many photos as possible within the remaining time left. Additional charges may apply for sessions that extend your time frame.

4.  What if the kids aren't following directions?

I have found that when the parents are relaxed, the children are more relaxed. Most parents want the "perfect picture" and this tends to put pressure on the children, resulting in forced smiles, grouchiness, and wandering eyes. I often take the children away from the parents for part of the session to do individual portraits. The children tend to loosen up and appear more comfortable. And keep in mind, not all of the photographs need to be posed and some of the best pictures are the natural, in the moment images.

5.  How many people can I bring to a family photo session?

It depends on the package you select. Most sessions include up to 4 family members but this varies and additional charges may apply for additional people.

6.  How long will it take to get my images?

Depending on time of year and how many orders are ahead of you, it can take up to 1-7 days to receive a link to your proof gallery and up to 1-14 days for editing and processing. When the images are complete, you will receive a link, password, and download code via email. You will have up to 30 days to view and download the images onto your computer and/or phone.

7.  Do you put the images on a disc?

Images are no longer available on discs. Images are downloaded through your online gallery and you are responsible to save them to your computer and/or disc. I always recommend backing up your images!

8.  Do you use props?

Since a majority of the sessions are taken outside, props are limited. I tend to use the natural environment for a more interesting look and have found that too many props can be distracting in the photograph. I do provide some props during the holiday season and for birthday shoots. You are welcome to bring any personal props along to create more personalized photographs. Let me know if you have any special requests for props.

9.  How big are the file sizes?

Online images are high resolution and can print up to poster size (3500px).

10. Where is the best place to have prints made?

I highly recommend ordering prints through the online gallery where you are also able to view and download your images. The prints through the gallery are high quality and professional. They use high quality printing paper and offer other printing choices as well such as gift items. You can also order prints through me. Please allow 2-4 weeks for processing. You can also upload your files to local stores such as Walgreens, Target, and Costco, but keep in mind that the print quality may not match what you see on the screen.

11. Can I refer a friend?

Yes, please! For every session booked through you, you will receive 2 extra images on your next photo session.

12. Where are the photo shoots located? Do you have a studio?

Photo shoots are mostly taken at outdoor locations around Hayward, Oakland, and Fremont areas. I have some favorite spots but I'm always open to new locations if you have a preference. Please note that additional charges may apply depending on the package you select. Locations 10 miles outside of Hayward will include an additional milage fee. Unfortunately, I do not own a studio but I have some studio lighting that can be used if needed. I prefer natural lighting and I prefer to avoid direct sunlight. Photo sessions can take place in your home, just keep in mind that natural lighting is the best source of light so areas or rooms with a lot of light are ideal.

13. What happens if it rains on the day of the photo shoot?

Even though cloudy skies are the best for lighting, if it is raining during the time of our session then we will have to reschedule our photo session for another day. I check the weather report daily/hourly and I will contact you if we need to reschedule.

14. Can we change outfits during the photo shoot?

You are welcome to change outfits during the photo shoot depending on the portrait package. Just keep in mind that outfit changes are included in the total session time and extra time will not be provided.

15. Can I bring my pet for the photo session?

You are welcome to bring your friendly pet to the session as long as the location permits. Your pet is considered a "person" based on the package you select. Additional charges may apply. You may also include your pet in the photos as well and be prepared to keep your pet secure during photos when they're not included. Keep in mind that pets require extra attention and time and you are recommended to select a longer session time.

16. How can I pay?

Payment must be paid in full at the time of the session and can be made with cash or Venmo (preferred). Other forms of payment such as credit card (using Square), check, or PayPal are also accepted. You will not receive your images until paid in full. Some bookings require a deposit in order to reserve the date.
