MATERNITY AND NEWBORN
PHOTOGRAPHY

Tips for Maternity Portraiture

•Schedule your session when you are in your seventh or eighth month of pregnancy. Your belly will have a lovely, full shape.

•If you wish to show your bare tummy, wear loose-fitting clothing to avoid elastic/clothing marks.

•Silk, lace, chiffon, and cotton fabrics drape beautifully around a pregnant body. Long, flowy materials and maxi skirts that are tight around the belly also work well. Avoid wearing black and white because it won't enhance the shape of your belly. You may want to chose colors based on gender and/or time of the year that your baby will be born.

•Hands are important, too, when photographing a close-up of your hands on or around your belly. It is recommended that you get a manicure with some light polish for a more natural, finished look.

•You may want to consider bringing any personal objects (baby shower favors, gifts, books, outfits, shoes) that can be incorporated into the photo. This will add a personal touch to your photograph. I have a few props on hand but I usually prefer keeping it natural so that you and your baby are the main focus of the image.
